Hey, I’m Mary—a former Myspace and ICQ addict (yep, from waaay back) who misses the personal web: the kind of place where people wrote about their lives, tucked photographs between paragraphs and followed whatever subject caught their attention that day.
Jollyhose is my return to that internet. It’s part journal, part scrapbook, part review column and part cabinet of curiosities. You’ll find movies, culture, jewelry, photographs, memories, everyday life and whatever else wanders in.
I was born in Chicago in 1980. My mother came here from the Philippines as a nurse and somehow kept everything moving with excellent scheduling skills. My childhood ran on Catholic school, Happy Meals, Rainbow Brite and entirely too much television. Eventually we were in the burbs, where dial-up internet arrived—followed by family, loss, reinvention and a growing collection of shiny things with stories attached.
The name Jollyhose comes from an inside joke from my twenties. Some things are better with a little mystery—although that gets harder when everything is already on the internet.
This site is still unfolding. So am I.
